So today was my aws (fancy government acronym for alternative work schedule a.k.a. MY DAY OFF). My mother is in town visiting from California so I’ve been looking forward to today for a while.
When you have a kid, the faster you come to grips with some universal truths, the better. Chief amongst them is “grandparents don’t really care what your plans are, they only tolerate you because you take care of their grandchild when they aren’t around. Plans be damned, my mother only wanted to organize the nursery, and re-organize my place so that its more Ella-friendly. By 2 o’clock I couldn’t take it anymore. I told my mother to put on her walking shoes and that it was time we got “out.” On the way out the door on a whim I grabbed my camera. I’m glad I did. We ended up going for a 4 mile walk in Rock Creek Park and afterwards picking up Ella and heading to my neighborhood playground . I didn’t get any high-powered workouts in, we didn’t try any new restaurants, I’ll be honest with you, I didn’t even shower, but today was perfect. I put a few low-impact miles in, I spent time with my favorite people in the world, and I shook the dust off my lens cap.
